A masters degree in computer science with focus on media technology from the Royal Institute of Technology, specialized within human computer interaction, usability and telepresence. A year at Tokyo Institute of Technology studying speech recognition at Shinoda Laboratory. Working as a test engineer as part of an agile team in the software industry, the reason for doing the TestingTools project found on this site. Experience from the travel industry, personal meetings online, finance and sports betting industries. Passionate about working in an agile team using modern methods of testing where I get to use many different skills and constantly learn new things.
Outside of work my passions lies within everything audio and video and creating almost all kinds of things, practical or only pleasing for the soul. I enjoy working with almost any material or tool, be it building something out of wood, acrylic or metal, soldering electronic circuits, sewing something out of fabric or leather, creating things from a piece of paper, use my camera to create an image or using my computers to create software tools or a piece of art.
As soon as I encounter a problem I can't help thinking about how I could build something to solve the task for me or to do it more efficiently. I love buying/creating new tools that enable me to build new things and make whatever my current project is even more polished. When I find a way to combine my passion for building and creating things with my other interests, or current practical every day life problems, is when I am at my happiest.
Having the not very common combination of a very logical mind together with a fairly creative and artistic side allows me to appreciate and understand the theoretical side of my projects while creating something that is not only theoretically sound but also visually pleasing. Hopefully something that I am able to communicate to some degree through this site.
In my profession as a tester it is very important for me to be part of an agile team where I sit together with the developers and being part of all activities of the team. I consider myself part of the context-driven approach of testing and mostly agree with the opinions of James Bach and Michael Bolton, to only mention two of the more well known names out there. There are many others that contribute with different and complementing views that help me learn new things and evolve my skills within testing.
In the future I will try to add a list of recommended reading here. For now I would recommend that if you are looking for a conference to attend, have a look at Let's Test. If you are looking for a course that will challenge your thinking as a tester have a look at Rapid software testing.
In my experience the best testers are fairly good developers as well as the best developers being fairly good testers. Given that and the logical nature of software development, which appeals to me, it makes much sense to me to learn more about software development, for example through the TestingTools project.
I have experience, more or less extensive but at least a decent level, with many different languages, technologies and software. These include C#, Java, VBA, Html, CSS, PHP, Powershell, Bash, REST and SQL, among others.
A limited amount of time means that I have don't have time for everything that I would want to do and among the things that have ended up on the back burner are my audio and video projects. During my time at university I created movies as well as being highly interested in the theoretical side, following the x264 development mailing list closely and working a lot with AviSynth. My Rode NT1-A sits mostly unused and I have not used Cubase or any other DAW in years now.
While this particular area is something that I don't really have the time for any more there are closely related ones such as Hi-Fi and photography that I have been prioritizing higher.
Hi-Fi is my biggest hobby, it is also very easy to combine with other things. I can listen to music while working on my other projects, while I am reading or just listen to music to relax. As can be seen on the DIY section many of my projects are Hi-Fi related, they might not be as good as their commercial counterparts, they might be better, they might offer better value or they might not really add anything, but it is always fun working on them.
I am building my music experience around high-end headphones with both a digital and an analog front end. With high quality vinyl records that have been well taken care of and properly cleaned a turntable offers a high quality sound while my music server offers simple access to all my digital music.
All things electronic fascinates me and I have for example built several headphone amplifiers. Most of my electronic projects are Hi-Fi related but I have also built other things such as LED based lamps and I have a couple of Arduino projects coming up. I also find cables surprisingly interesting where some of the ones I have made can be seen in the DIY section.
I don't have as much time for photography and editing my photos as I used to, but it is something I enjoy greatly and at select occasions I bring out all my strobes, filters and other accessories for a photo session. I find most enjoyment in shooting inanimate objects where I have the time to set everything up as I want and can experiment with lighting until I am satisfied with the result. Origami is one of my favourite ways of relaxing and works as meditation where I can let go of any other thoughts that I have and focus exclusively on the folding. The reason I find origami so interesting is that it fits my meticulous nature where I get to carefully fold the paper in precise proportions and in the end you have gone from a piece of paper to a little piece of art. I highly recommend origami as a way to relax, if you have a patient nature, some examples can be found on the photos section.
